The Best Things In Life Comes In Twos

Deciding to write a music blog entry every weekend was a very ambitious goal and so I figured I would instead try to post one playlist each month. The June playlist is an eclectic mix of the new and the old that represents some of my favorite artists spanning genres such as rock, pop and alternative punk.

Mark Knopfler, the singer, songwriter and renowned guitarist of Dire Straits has been creating some remarkable solo stuff and I enjoyed watching him perform songs such as “Boom, Like That” from the “Shangri-La” album at a outdoor concert in Berkeley a couple of summers ago. His song “Rollin’ On” from the recent album “All The Roadrunning” inspired me to create this playlist and share it with everyone.
U2 has remained one of my favorite artists for well over a decade and I have been caught watching their “Rattle and Hum” movie over and over again. While I wanted to feature “Van Diemen’s Land”, I felt “All I Want Is You” would lend itself well to this playlist. “Miss Sarajevo” is a triumph of lead singer Bono and Italian opera maestro Luciano Pavarotti working together to create something that is as beautiful as it is unique.
I have always regretted missing the opportunity to watch Coldplay when they performed live in Bend, Oregon to promote their first breakthrough album “Parachutes”. ”Speed of Sound” from their 2005 album “X&Y” and ”Clocks” from “A Rush Of Blood To The Head” might help those not familiar with Coldplay understand why I regret missing that opportunity.
Listening to “Your Blood” by Destroyer reminds of a young, rambling and vibrant Bob Dylan. “Rubies” is another outstanding long song that makes me look forward to more by this indie rock band.

With this introduction, here is the June playlist.

1. Rollin’ On – Mark Knopfler
2. Boom, Like That – Mark Knopfler
3. All I Want Is You – U2
4. Miss Sarajevo – U2
5. Clocks – Coldplay
6. Speed Of Sound – Coldplay
7. Is It Any Wonder? – Keane
8. Somewhere Only We Know – Keane
9. Please Forgive Me – David Gray
10. Dead In The Water – David Gray
11. Laid – James
12. Waltzing Along – (Single version) – James
13. Rubies – Destroyer
14. Your Blood – Destroyer
